Wild camping in Armenia: is it legal? (2026)

The recast protected-areas law took effect on 24 July 2026. Subordinate instruments haven't caught up, so this isn't settled yet.

Nor did we find a statutory exemption for one night with nothing pitched.

That a zone is for recreation doesn't turn visitor rest into an express right to pitch. The law doesn't say it, and we won't say it for them.

Going tentless doesn't cure the law's silence on overnighting.

This is an access and parking record, nothing more: motor and traction movement per the park's rule.

There's an old camping notice for Dilijan that's useful field evidence but can't fill the current legal gap. We treat it as what it is: a hint, not a rule.

The Sevan National Park charter prohibits camping in its reserve zones, and does so with an express duration cap. It's one of the few genuinely closed Armenian rules we could verify.

Travelling light doesn't dodge an express duration cap.

The right to be present in forest for recreation exists, but we don't promote it into an overnight right. We found no low-impact or one-night exception.

Same silence, same conclusion: with no rule located, there's no permission to assume.

Armenia's Forest Code does have an open door worth knowing: the organised tourism, sports or youth camp on forest land. It's a formal route, quite distinct from pitching alone beside the track.

A permission-controlled strip: entry and stay need individual or group authorisation. It's an access layer, not a camping permit.

There's no low-impact exception for one night.

Border-access record only: the authorisation covers entering, not sleeping.

An administrative gap, and we label it as one: we found no nightly registration duty for a short-stay visitor without residence status. That is not camping permission.
